Hey there guys, today’s video is all about the bit of a confessional on my part. My confession is, I am an SEO spammer. Yes, I said it, I spam, and I create spam websites for SEO purposes. Few years back I created an additional number of websites in order to test some theories I had around exact match domains. I’m going to talk to you guys about specifically what I did, why my spammy websites are ranking when they’re full of AdSense ads and what businesses can do to capitalize on scenario as well coming up right after this.

Today I’m going to talk to you guys about why I class myself as an SEO spammer, and talk to you a bit about the experiment I did a few years back and that’s led me towards a situation where I make money from AdSense on some really spammy websites.
What did I do? Well, a few years back I created a number of websites around a very boring topic, which is banks sort codes. I noticed it was a very easy term to rank for for things like Barclays sort codes or Santander sort codes. Basically any bank sort code. What I did I bought a number of domains exact match domains for barclayssortcodes.com, Santandersortcode.com, and things like that. That was really what I did.
I put the websites live. Luckily I have the skills to build websites quite quickly. I build these websites and these exact match domains, optimize the sites on page, in a normal way, looking at headers, content images, all those kind of things, titles, descriptions. Everything standard on page SEO wise I optimized on these websites. I just thought to myself let’s see what happens, and indeed we did find out what happened.
If you look at the visual on screen right now you will see from when I launched a website all the way through until now I grew the organic traffic for the barclayssortcodes.com website. Not just that I grew it for HSBC. I grew it for Santander. It just seemed like a very easy way to generate free traffic, and of course, I loaded the website with AdSense because it took me about half a day to build these websites and I want to get paid for it.
I loaded it with AdSense and to this day I still make revenue off AdSense from these websites. Why am I telling you this? The reason I’m telling you this is because, in reality, why should I rank for those terms. When you think about it my websites that I created are low quality, they’re exact match domains, which Google says shouldn’t matter anymore, when clearly, to some degree it must do, because I’m ranking for these terms quite successfully.
All of these reasons are explained, I guess, why I think businesses are missing a massive trick because there are a number of businesses out there from a commercial point of view who would actually benefit from ranking for the terms I’m targeting. Say, for example, you are a transfer company with this international bank transfers, maybe your Western Union, maybe your TransferWise, maybe there are even products out there, in fact I know there are products out there, where they sell sort code data to businesses to verify transactions.
Again, that’s another business that could benefit from ranking for the terms I am. Now, these websites all said and done, generate thousands of users and thousands of sessions per week. These businesses could definitely benefit from this, why the hell aren’t they? Well, it all comes down to the fact that a lot of businesses just miss the opportunity. There are so many low hanging fruit keywords that are out there that potentially your business could rank for.
In my scenario it was around sort codes, in other areas, it might be contact centers or things like that. There are a number of different places and businesses that could rely on these really, really easy to rank for terms to generate revenue for their business. This is a huge missed opportunity. Look at the traffic I’ve generated doing this and how I feel like I’ve outed myself. I’ve left myself open to vulnerability to stop generating revenue but I don’t care to be honest.
I’d rather share the information with you around what I did and how I did. I hope that it spurs you on to think of areas within your business where you could potentially rank for keywords that are quite easy to rank for, that’ll bring you traffic, but also bring you relevant traffic. Mid funnel traffic in reality. Nothing that’s going to get you sales overnight but something that’s going to put your brand in the minds of businesses when it comes to discussing subjects around your niche.
The premise of this video is really to make sure that you understand there are key words out there that you could rank for very, very quickly within your niche that will bring you traffic to brand your business.
