If you’re not producing content, you better be amazing at sales

Transcript – Produce Content Or Die

If your business doesn’t produce content, then you’d better be a damn good salesperson. Hey, guys, Darren Taylor of giving you tips, insight and opinion on all things marketing. If that’s up your street, you should consider subscribing to my channel. Today, I’m talking about why businesses, particularly small businesses and independent consultants, need to produce content. Why do you think I’m in front of this camera right now? Because I know my personal brand would be positively impacted massively from the content I produce. Guess what?

Your business will be massively impacted by the content you produce, as well. As long as you know your target audience, then you can create content that really, really resonates them. It’s not sales. You’re not pitching yourself at every single opportunity, then you’re going to make yourself in a much better position during the sales process to reach out to the customer when the time is right. Think about it. Why would a customer pick your business or want to work with you over all the hundreds of other companies out there doing what you do as well? Well, that’s easy if you produce the right content for the audience. Can you imagine a customer now looking for your services?

They might look online, they might be within the certain industry that you want to target and you’re actively producing content. It doesn’t matter what kind of format you use for the content. It could be blogging, it could be producing video content, it could be infographics, it could simply be just interviews with key members or staff adding value to your business. That is all it takes really to make sure you’re in the eyes of your customers when the time is right. A lot of businesses don’t produce content because it’s very labor intensive. It doesn’t have to be but it can be for some businesses because a lot of the time, they don’t know where to start with writing content or what to write about, how to reach the audience they want to reach.

The thing is, you have to remember, not everybody can produce content. You might need some help. Guess what? Not everybody is a writer. You think just producing content’s enough? You have to be a good writer. You can’t just expect to sit down in front of WordPress, type up a blog, post it out and expect it’s getting good engagement. It takes practice and a lot of people don’t have the time to invest in practicing that craft. Now, I know myself. I am not a good writer hence the reason I’m looking down the lens of a camera now coming at you from this angle because I know I can’t write for shits. I’m much better in front of a camera just speaking like this to my audience and making sure that I engage with them on one to one level like this because my writing sucks.

produce content or die
Produce content or die.. It’s that simple!

That’s okay because at the end of the day, I haven’t invested in getting better at writing content but in front of the camera, I’ve now been on YouTube for about nine months or so. I’ve got much better in front of camera and hopefully, you guys watching the video, can see the improvement from when I first started all the way through until now. I’ going to keep producing content until I get better and better at my craft of using video to reach my audience. Yes, if you haven’t started producing content, why not start today? You need to start today and you might be finding it difficult to get the thoughts in order. Just sit down and brainstorm, write a few things down.

Some ideas of challenges across your industry, interesting things about your industry that you can provide your unique opinion on because it’s not necessarily about the subject matter you’re discussing, it’s about your spin on it, your opinion on it and the way you articulate yourself on a written word or in front of the camera, or on a podcast even. Whatever you do, just give yourself a chance to get out there in front of your audience. Now, I’m not one to get jealous but there is one thing I’m really, really envious of and that is ridiculously talented salespeople because I’ve seen businesses where their sales talent is so good, they don’t even produce content.

All they do is pick the phone up, cold call businesses. FYI cold calling isn’t dying but that’s another conversation for another day, but these people I’ve seen pick the phone up, call up businesses and book in tons and tons of new business, put meetings and consistently bringing revenues to their businesses. Let’s be honest, not everybody is capable of that but everybody is capable of learning to produce content and getting yourself discovered by your target audience. Another thing to remember is that producing content doesn’t reap instant results. You’re not necessarily going to produce a blog article, push it out there and expect tons of businesses to pick the phone up to you, and start conversations about how your business can help them.

No, that’s not how it works. The way it work is you produce content consistently, people pick up your content within your target industry and eventually, when it’s time for them to make a purchase, you would be in their memory because you’ve added value to them already. You’ve already helped them significantly and therefore, they’d be more willing to do business with you. However, that’s not to say content can’t produce instant results. For instance, I produce videos consistently that have led for me to get more consulting gigs with people, that’s led to many of my speaking opportunities because people have simply seen my videos, liked what I have to say and then book me in for these opportunities. It can work that way as well but you can’t expect it to.

Now, my challenge to you is to start producing content and don’t expect results straight away. Just get pens and paper, in front of the camera, in front of a microphone for a podcast, whatever medium is more comfortable with you. Do what resonates with you and my challenge to you is to start producing content today. This doesn’t apply to just businesses and people with content teams or medium-sized businesses. I’m talking about employed individuals because at the end of the day, you want to make sure you stand out from the crowd in the employment market within your industry, you want to get the respect for what you do in your industry and there’s no better way to do that than to produce content consistently and get better and better at doing it. Eventually, you will definitely stand out.

Thank you guys so much for watching this video. If you liked it, please leave a like a below. What I want to know in the comments is what medium do you prefer to produce content on? Is it video like me, is it writing a blog post, is it podcast thing, is it producing images and using social media? Let me know what the best ways you produce content and I’ll see you guys on my next video
